A Luxury Retreat in Seogwipo
During our recent trip to Jeju, we spent our final night at the JW Marriott Jeju Resort & Spa. Perched on a cliff in Seogwipo and directly connected to the Jeju Olle Trail Route 7, the resort offers a unique atmosphere designed by Bill Bensley. Having visited previously while construction was still underway, I was pleased to find the property fully completed and incredibly comfortable this time around.
Arrival and Room Experience
Check-in was a seamless experience conducted in a comfortable lounge area rather than at a standing desk. As a Gold Elite member, we were delighted to receive an upgrade to an ocean-view room. The view of the sea from our room was breathtaking and set the tone for a relaxing stay.
The room layout is quite thoughtful, featuring a separate pantry-like space for the closet and mini-bar. The bathroom is uniquely configured with a private toilet area, a separate shower and bathtub, and a double vanity. The bedding was exceptionally comfortable—so much so that I wished I could take it home! For our six-year-old, the resort provided kid-sized robes and slippers, which were a lovely touch.
Dining and Amenities
Dining is a highlight here, with several distinct venues:
- Island Kitchen: We enjoyed our breakfast here, which features a mix of buffet options and a la carte main dishes using local Jeju ingredients.
- The Lounge: A perfect spot for tea or coffee, and a favorite for our child because they offer free ice cream for kids.
- The Flying Hog: A grill restaurant specializing in Jeju black pork.
- Yeoumul: A fine-dining destination focused on local seafood and seasonal ingredients.
- Bar Botan: A convenient poolside bar for snacks and drinks.
Activities for the Whole Family
We made the most of the resort’s programs. Our child participated in a half-day kids’ program, which was handled with such warmth and care by the staff that it became a highlight of the trip. I also joined the yoga and ‘Haenyeo Sumbisori’ wellness programs.
We spent plenty of time at the pool, where the warm water made it easy for our child to play for hours. The stamp tour was another fun activity; by collecting stamps throughout the resort, we were able to pick up a gift at the ‘Dancing Durumi’ retail shop.

- Membership Benefits: As Gold Elite members, we received an upgrade and were able to utilize our Marriott card vouchers for breakfast, which included kid-friendly options like the children’s set menu.
- Tips: While the resort is a fantastic destination, keep in mind that specific promotional gifts or vouchers can change over time. We found the resort to be a true destination in itself, perfect for families looking to enjoy a mix of relaxation and curated activities.
