The Buzz Around Dadong Hwangso Makchang
I finally made my way to Dadong Hwangso Makchang, a place I had been curious about for a while. Located in the heart of the Dadong Food Alley, this spot has gained significant fame after being featured as a favorite of Hwasa and appearing on Kang Min-kyung’s YouTube channel. Given its reputation, the restaurant fills up quickly, especially with the after-work crowd, so I made sure to arrive right at opening time to avoid a long wait.

Practical Guide: Location and Hours
If you are planning a visit, keep these details in mind:
- Address: 1st Floor, 60-5 Namdaemun-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul
- Hours: Monday–Friday 16:00–23:00, Saturday 16:00–22:00, closed on Sundays.
- Contact: 0507-1346-9061

Reservation Strategy
The restaurant uses a digital waiting system. You can register your phone number at the kiosk located at the entrance starting at 15:30, and you will receive a notification via KakaoTalk when your table is ready. As a helpful note for families, pregnant women are granted priority entry without having to wait.

Menu and Dining Experience
The menu features staples like Hwangso Makchang, beef small intestines (gopchang), large intestines (daechang), heart (yeomtong), and fried rice, with prices generally ranging between 20,000 and 50,000 KRW.
I ordered the signature Hwangso Makchang. One of the best parts of the experience is that the makchang arrives pre-grilled, which significantly cuts down on the wait time at the table. Finishing it off over charcoal adds a wonderful savory flavor without any gamey odors. The texture was pleasantly chewy without being overly tough, making it easy to enjoy.

Atmosphere and Final Verdict
The side dishes paired well with the grilled intestines, and the overall atmosphere is perfect for those looking to enjoy a drink after work. The staff were responsive and attentive, ensuring a smooth dining experience.
Is it worth the hype? I found it to be a solid, reliable makchang spot. While it might not be a life-changing culinary revelation, it delivers on the basics with great flavor and a lively environment. If you find yourself in the Dadong area and are craving makchang, it is definitely worth a visit.
