Finding Personal Time During a Family Trip
During my stay at the JW Marriott Jeju Resort & Spa in May, I decided to step away from the usual itinerary of sightseeing and dining to experience two of the resort’s adult-focused programs. While traveling with family often means prioritizing the kids’ needs, these sessions offered me a rare, quiet opportunity to focus on myself. It was such a refreshing change of pace that I would definitely participate again on a future visit.

Booking Guide and Venue Information
Both the Journaling Yoga and Haenyeo Sumbisori programs are complimentary for resort guests. If you are planning to join, keep in mind that reservations for the following month open on the 25th of each month at 2 PM. Since I was staying during the week, I found the booking process to be quite straightforward. Both programs are held at the Re Creation Play Room located on the 2nd floor, which is in the same building as the kids’ club and swimming pool.

Journaling Yoga: A Mindful Stretch
Journaling Yoga was a unique experience that went beyond a standard fitness class. It combined physical stretching and yoga movements with a dedicated time for emotional reflection. In the rush of a typical vacation—constantly moving and taking photos—this session allowed me to pause and check in with my own state of mind. Writing down my thoughts on paper helped clear my head, and I left feeling both physically relaxed and mentally centered. It was easily the most peaceful part of my trip.

Haenyeo Sumbisori: Connecting with Jeju’s Culture
The Haenyeo Sumbisori program offered a deeper look into the local culture of Jeju. I learned about the history of the island’s iconic female divers and the significance of their “sumbisori,” the distinct breathing sound they make after surfacing from the water. Although I have visited Jeju many times, I had never truly delved into the life and culture of the Haenyeo until now. It was meaningful to move beyond the perspective of a typical tourist and engage with the island’s history in such an intimate setting.

Conclusion: The Value of Hotel-Based Experiences
While these programs are not large-scale or flashy, their quiet, thoughtful nature made them incredibly memorable. For anyone looking to balance a family vacation with some personal relaxation or a deeper cultural connection, I highly recommend checking the schedule for these activities. They provided a perfect way to recharge and experience Jeju in a more meaningful, grounded way.
