Avoiding the Heat with Delivery Apps

Bangkok’s food scene is incredible, but the heat and long queues can be exhausting. Using delivery apps like GrabFood, Foodpanda, and Line Man is a game-changer, allowing you to enjoy local favorites without stepping out into the humidity.

Hotel Delivery Logistics

Staying at the COMO Metropolitan Bangkok made the process seamless. The hotel staff were incredibly helpful, bringing pre-paid delivery orders directly to my room. By registering my travel card in the apps, I could handle all payments in advance, making the entire experience effortless.

Baan Somtum

This is my absolute favorite spot in Bangkok. I made sure to order from them early in my trip. A major plus is that they offer delivery for their entire menu, including their delicious coconut ice cream for dessert.

On Lok Yun

Famous for its traditional local-style breakfast and brunch, On Lok Yun is also available for delivery. Since the menu is entirely in Thai, I recommend using Google Translate’s photo translation feature to navigate the options and ensure you order exactly what you want.

Charoen Saeng Silom

Known for its pork leg rice, this spot is a classic. While I found that dining in person last year offered a slightly better experience, delivery is still a convenient and tasty option. A quick tip: be mindful of the portion size. I made the mistake of ordering a smaller size, which resulted in receiving less desirable cuts of meat. If you order to your room, you can always request extra bowls and spoons from hotel service.

Polo Fried Chicken & Starbucks

I also ordered Polo Fried Chicken, which was consistently delicious. I treated myself to Starbucks as well; while the drinks are excellent, keep in mind that they are quite pricey in Bangkok.

A Note on Seasonal Fruit

If you are looking for Mayongchid, keep in mind that it is highly seasonal. By May, it is already quite scarce, and you will generally only find it available through April. I ended up ordering a dessert containing the fruit at a premium price just to get a taste before the season ended.

Final Thoughts

Whether you are craving a hearty pork leg rice or a sweet treat, delivery apps are a practical way to manage your dining in Bangkok. Just remember to use translation tools for local menus and choose your portions wisely to get the best cuts of meat.
