Seeking a Break from Thai Cuisine in Bangkok

During my April 2025 trip to Bangkok, I found myself craving a change of pace from the local Thai dishes. That’s when I discovered Thien Duong, a Vietnamese restaurant located in the Silom area. Having frequented the original Dusit Thani Bangkok in the past, I was excited to finally experience this spot, which is recognized in the Michelin Guide as a Bib Gourmand restaurant for its high-quality, reasonably priced offerings.

Dining Experience: Atmosphere and Menu

The interior design is stunning, evoking the feel of French colonial-era Vietnam. With mustard-colored walls, rose-pink granite tables, and black floor tiles, the space feels like a different world—quiet, cozy, and elegant. Because the setting is so beautiful, I opted for a dress rather than casual attire to match the sophisticated vibe. Even the restrooms were lovely!

When it comes to the menu, the food focuses on fresh vegetables and herbs rather than heavy, spicy flavors. While popular recommendations include the grilled lamb with mint tamarind sauce, pho, shrimp wrapped in sugarcane, and rice crackers with abalone and shrimp, I decided to order a few items that caught my eye.

Personal Recommendations

I had a very satisfying and hearty meal. My order included:

  • Grilled Wagyu beef
  • BBQ Khanom Jeen pork (fermented rice noodles)
  • TD Fried-Rice Curry
  • Chicken Pho

If you are using the digital menu via Hungry Hub and find the lack of photos tricky, don’t hesitate to ask the servers; they were happy to show me pictures to help me make my selections. Overall, Thien Duong provided a wonderful, refreshing break from my usual routine. If you are looking for a high-quality meal in a beautiful setting, I highly recommend adding this to your Bangkok itinerary.
